Presentation
The Joint Service Unit (UMS 38, INSERM/University of Strasbourg) of the Strasbourg Centre for Biomedical Research (Centre de recherche en biomédecine de Strasbourg – CRBS) organises and develops shared services as well as platforms dedicated to research. It is composed of staff from the university and INSERM, and serves the ten research units housed within the centre.
The CRBS's scientific platforms include a photonic and electronic imaging unit as well as a conventional and Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) animal facility. Shared technical services include the laundry, digital services and building infrastructure management. The joint service unit also includes a management, administration and general affairs department, as well as a shared reception and logistics service.
The CRBS has a multi-thematic approach and is pursuing several major research topics, particularly in neuroscience, inflammation-immunity, biomaterials, medical genetics, oncology and regenerative nanomedicine. The building also houses the Alsace Institute of Medical Genetics (Institut de génétique médicale d’Alsace), which is attached to the Strasbourg University Hospitals. Working in close collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, Health Sciences and Maieutics, it has almost 300 staff members.
The objectives of the CRBS are to create a pole of attraction on the medical campus by federating research structures in the fields of medicine and life sciences, to adapt the premises to the requirements of cross-disciplinary biomedical research, to enable modularity of laboratories in order to adapt to contract renewals and scientific developments, to pool specific equipment, and to promote collaboration between research teams and the various players in the medical sector.
